I was a bit skeptical of this book at first. I’m not sure
why, considering I love the idea of time travel, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted
to read it. I kept hearing positive reviews though, so I purchased it and
finally picked it up a few weeks later. And I fell in love with it.
A lot of that love is for one Emerson Cole. Seriously, I
adore that girl. A tiny blond spitfire whose wit is as fast as her reflexes,
Emerson jumped on the page and demanded attention. She was sarcastic,
independent, and strong-will, all things I love in protagonists. Her tragic
back-story and strength to overcome it only added to my respect for her. Although the concept and story kept me intrigued, this would just be an "okay" novel without Emerson.
I had been hearing a lot about this "Kaleb" fellow, and eagerly anticipated his involvement in the novel. It took him much longer to be in the story than I thought but once he was there he was all I could think about. Yeah, Michael was pretty cool, but the sexy, sarcastic voice Kaleb brought to the story stole my heart. Finding out that the sequel
Timepiece is narrated by Kaleb just makes me even more excited for it!
The entire plot of the story was fantastic. I was flipping the pages as quickly as possible just to find out what would happen next. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, McEntire would throw a curve-ball into the story that had my jaw-dropping. The time travel element, which could have been very confusing, was weaved well throughout the story making this complex theory easy to understand. It was a very interesting and fantastic new spin on a classic concept.
If you love intrigue, tough protagonists, and time travel,
Hourglass is your novel. Pick this one up. You're going to love it!
