My awesome book friends Meaghan and Emilie are going with and we've been gushing non-stop about how fun it'll be. I can't wait to meet up with my Toronto blogger friends and attend my first signing of the year!
I'm really excited to meet Marissa Meyer since I adore the Lunar Chronicles! It's such a creative series and the characters are simply some of the best. Raincoast is hosting a contest (that I'm pretty sure ends tomorrow so I'm (hopefully) just squeaking in) to win a one-on-one interview with Marissa Meyer herself!
One of my questions for Marissa would be: "What is your favorite part about NaNoWriMo?" I'm a huge fan of National Novel Writing Month and I heard that Cinder was written originally as a NaNo novel, so I would love to get to chat with her about that! (And maybe ask a few questions about my dear Prince Kai!)

Guys, I love covers. I really do. I love the stunning, the enchanting, the symbolic, and even the simple covers. I just love them. I've been featuring more and more covers on the blog cause I'm hoping to spread the love! And this week, it's for Scarlet by Marissa Meyer!

This cover is just so perfect I can't even handle it. Scarlet, the sequel to the amazing Cinder, is a retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale. And my oh my is it a good retelling. I was lucky enough to borrow an ARC of this novel, and it was lots of awesome sauce (I'll have a full review coming closer to the release date). And this cover just adds to it!
This cover captures the storyline perfectly. The Red Riding Hood theme is very clearly displayed on this cover, as is Scarlet's flaming red hair. I really liked that there's a bit of a foggy element on the cover, which gives an air of mystery. I also like that Scarlet is running in this picture, which aptly describes a lot of the story. As I always say, I really like when covers match or stay with the same theme and Scarlet and Cinder are defiently very similar. I can't wait to pick up my copy and stare at it on my shelf!

So, my pile to add to my shelf this week is small. Actually, it's not really even a pile. I only got one book, and while normally I would just postpone my Stacking the Shelves until a later week, I had to showcase this book, because I am so beyond excited! Here it is:
Yep! That's right. I currently have sitting on my shelf Scarlet, the second book in the Lunar Chronicles! Technically, it's not actually mine. Just mine for a bit. Katherine (from The Lady Critic's Library), one of the Ottawa Bloggers, received a copy of it, and agreed to share it with the rest of us. We have little list and each blogger is reading then passing it along. And now it's my turn! So thank you Katherine for letting us borrow it, and thanks to Kathy (from A Glass of Wine) for passing it along!

If you haven't heard about Cinder, I'm not sure where you've been for the past few months. The buzz this book has gotten has been insane! I haven't heard a negative word about it. How could I, considering how amazing this book is? After reading all the rave reviews, I knew I had to pick up a copy of Cinder. I mean, a re-imagined version of Cinderella as a cyborg? What's not to love?
I'm a huge fan of fairy tales; I have been since I was a kid. Combine that with my serious love of science fiction, and Cinder had me from the first page. Meyer's creativity breathes new life into this magnificent fairy tale, and the characters she's created are fantastic: Cinder, the over-worked mechanic, Prince Kai, the reluctant leader, Iko, the robot with tons of personality, and what would a fairy tale be without an evil queen, this one from the moon! The story, although slightly predictable, was a page-turner. I found myself unable to think about anything else until I found out what happened next. The chemistry between Kai and Cinder was endearing, and watching Cinder gather her strength and face her own fears made me cheer. I loved the futuristic world in which it all took place, and found myself completely invested in the fate of these characters. The story wove together beautifully, already establishing a base for the next three novels in the series. The Lunar Chronicles is going to be a fantastic series. I can tell already!
Another thing I love about Cinder is that it was started as a NaNoWriMo novel. If you haven't heard of National Novel Writing Month (website here) it's in November and each participant tries to write a 50,000 word novel in that month. It's crazy, intense, and makes November my favorite month of the year. I have participated for the past three years, and have been successful each time. To know that this amazing novel started off from one of my favorite things in the world is inspiring. And very encouraging. If she could do it maybe, just maybe, I could too (maybe).
Check out this book, if you haven't already. Marissa Meyer's debut novel has instantly launched her onto my auto-buy list! I expected a great story, but it was even better. I cannot wait to read Scarlet, Meyer's take on Little Red Riding Hood. Also, check out Cinder's trailer below!
